ARE MILLENNIALS REALLY NOT TIPPING?

So yesterday on my way home from work I was listening to a talk radio show that just happened to be on where they were discussing something that really caught my attention. Apparently there was a recent study done by Creditcards.com regarding the generation considered millennial's and a trend of not tipping well. This apparently has been noticeable among this generation and has been studied and concluded that we are the worst tippers. I just thought I would give my input on this matter and ask for some input from you my readers. I'm interested in either your experience with this or even your feelings on it. Let me just say before I go much further that I do not believe that an entire generation of people can be generalized very well the way they are doing with this study. I am 36 years old so I am at the higher end of this age group yet I still fall into this age group myself. So my opinion on this study is based on the fact that I myself am also considered a millennial by their definition and I want to share how I feel about this study.

What is wrong with the study?......

I'm sure a lot of data was analyzed to come to this conclusion, but I still do not think they are getting an accurate picture. Unless I am the exception to this rule, and I do not believe I am I would never eat out at a sit down restaurant if I was not going to tip. I am a millennial according to this study and know many millennials and out of all the millennials I have shared a meal with over the years, I have never witnessed one that left no tip. Granted I could have overlooked it once or twice and not realized it but I do not believe I have ever witnessed this before. I'm sure it happens and I am sure there are many millennial's that do this, but I have a feeling there are many in other age groups as well.

What I believe is wrong with not tipping......

My personal opinion is that if you cannot afford a tip or do not intend to tip, there are many restaurants that do not require tipping today. Restaurants where tips are expected factor this into the wages paid to the staff that receive tips. Did you know that the staff that receives tips actually makes less than minimum wage? You can check out here some more details on what they are actually paid Waiters and waitresses Pay scales Even if the service was not the best, I have still always tipped a small amount in fact I believe 15% should still be tipped on less than excellent service. If that sounds unreasonable then by all means tip less for service you do not feel deserves this but please tip something. Try to keep in mind that their wages are less than minimum wage and that what they do is not an easy job. If you consider these factors regarding the job that you are still choosing not to tip when eating out , I personally feel that is disrespectful of another persons time and service offered.

These are just my own opinions on what may be considered a rather controversial topic. I hope you understand that my opinions are based on how I choose to view and treat others in life. Keep in mind that if you were working in a job that required or allowed tips that I ( a millennial ) would be showing my appreciation of what you do when visiting your establishment with a tip.

I welcome and appreciate your comments below, but please make sure that when commenting you do so with consideration and respect for others. Thank you for reading my post today and for considering these things the next time you choose to dine out.
